stripes on white

A few of you commented on my stripe top in this post so I thought I would share my stripe collection – one short sleeve, one 3/4 sleeve and two long sleeved. I also have a navy and white stripe blazer not pictured. I adopted the stripe-top trend long after everyone else, as I usually do. I studied how it was worn by others and assessed whether or not it suited my wardrobe. Over the past 12 months, I’ve spent considerable (self-absorbed but very useful!!!) hours looking at photos of me, including some without makeup and those taken after I stopped colouring my hair in 2010. Since my teenage years I have disliked an underlying hue of my hair and often covered it in dye. It was last at its most natural colour at our wedding in 2007 and before that, 2004. Since embracing it (a good tick for self-acceptance), I have come to adore my natural tone and am learning what my best colours are with it. A set colour scheme is also valuable for keeping my wardrobe smaller and making shopping easier and faster. When studying the photos I finally understood fully that plain white is not an uplifting colour around my face.* So, come 2012, I determined that indeed the stripy top is a good basic in my wardrobe.

*Except for Diner en Blanc where all-white is mandatory. Other than a change of shoes, I’ve worn the same outfit to 3 of these events so that I don’t have to keep acquiring more white clothes. The fashion faux-pas of a minimalism enthusiast. Winking smile

I am enjoying learning how you manage your minimalism goals, especially with your wardrobe. Mine is not so minimal (though I am slowly paring down), but is most defined by comfort. You’ll find me in the same comfy clothes week after week. Beautiful photo, as always.

You can never go wrong with stripes, really!

Haha i know we are going to be great friends, i have about the same number of striped t-shirts!! My husband always says ‘but you have a striped blue shirt’ but the color, the stripe, short or long sleeve…they are all so different. xo

I like this process you describe about managing your small wardrobe. It is true that it is important to know and accept ourselves and find ways that flatter our figure and match our taste. I also find that pure white doesn’t sit me too well, so I have, like you, a couple of stripes-on-white tops, and an off-white (sand coloured, maybe?) top. I find this approach of “know yourself and choose accordingly” very efficient and rewarding :)

I too am a big fan of stripes, but not on white, as white just doesn’t suit my colouring – my base colour for my wardrobe is navy and my favourite colour to go with it is magenta – luckily, both these colours were in fashion here this winter so I have been in my element.

These are so fresh and crisp and I am so tired now of winter layers….

I love a good striped top, do you have favourite stores that are your go-to’s?

I learnt a few years ago that I am an ‘Autumn’. With my dark blonde hair and green/hazel eyes I suit colours within the Autumn spectrum – greens, rusts, browns, mustards, navys, grey based colours. So, I did a bit of a wardrobe cull and ditched a fair few items that I loved but never wore because they simply didn’t suit me. And now I know why they didn’t suit me!

Can one have too many striped tops Lucent? Well probably yes but if they form the majority of one’s tops then the answer would be no.
I love your collection and the different widths of stripes and arm lengths.
My love affair with stripes has been forever but once upon a time (showing my age here!) the choices were very limited. Now I have 1 white/black striped tank, 2 white/black 3/4 sleeve striped tees, 1 black/white 3/4 sleeve tee, and 2 caramel/black 3/4 sleeve tees that I wear all year and 1 yellow/white 3/4 sleeve tee that I wear in Spring and Summer. Long live striped tops :)

wow! i’m not the only one obsessed with stripes :) I’ve got a pretty wide collection of this kind of t-shirts and I never get bored of them!

I love the look – but not on me! Too short, too dumpy, too much weight, so the only stripy thing I’m keeping is a navy striped cotton sweater to wear when we’re in Brittany, when everything is striped LOL!

It’s really helpful to have a streamlined wardrobe as such! And stripes are always a lovely choice..

I’ve picked up a few striped tops recently & love them so much! I’ll have to back & see how you styled these.
