It’s getting a little Julie & Julia around here! The cooking club challenge for this year (rather than last year’s monthly format) was borne out of my own project. I was speaking with my husband about feeling overwhelmed by all the cooking blogs and he challenged me to cook every recipe in one book. I loved the idea of not being able to avoid cooking a recipe; working through the books I own and determining which ones are indeed “keepers”; and the simplicity of one source for the entire time. The project also aligns perfectly with my desire to entertain more often – already I have hosted 5 dinner parties this year and have gained greater confidence and new skills in the kitchen. Making people happy and quality time together is a great side effect of this mission!

The meals shown in this post were nearly all from my chosen book, Fast, Fresh, Simple by Donna Hay. I’m so happy to have these wonderful women on this journey with me, each in their own way. Others have indicated they might join us later and I welcome anyone who wishes to do so!

That looks such an inspiring book – I love recipes that are simple and
easy. The end results looks so fresh too. I will look forward to following your progress during the year and sharing with us your favourites.

As I’m in the throes of decluttering more of my recipe books I like your husband’s idea of working through one completely to assess it’s “keepability” :)
Looking forward to seeing more photos and descriptions of your 5 dinner parties.

That’s an idea that’s been tossed around our house before, but never followed up on! I admire your dedication. I’m thinking I need to look at my cookbooks again…

This is a great idea! I have so many cookbooks that i have only ever used a handful of recipes. I look fwd to seeing you document your Fast Fresh and Simple Donna Hay journey ;-) .

I never liked Donna Hay much because I always thought her food was too focused on ‘healthy’ rather than tasty (same problem with why I didn’t like 101cookbooks re Kylie’s project). However the food you’ve made so far in that other post looks delicious so I am looking forwards to seeing what else you cook!

I loved Julie & Julia and thought exactly of that when I read about this challenge! I look forward to seeing not only the recipes you create, but the images of them as well.

What a great idea! Such a clever boy you have :) I might have to do something similar to this – but obviously with one of my allergy cookbooks ;)

We’ve spoken about doing this as well after watching the movie but haven’t put it in to practice yet. I love the idea and looking forward to hearing about your favourites.
