cloudy & breezy

17 February 2013

I admire the beauty in all weather (except for stinking hot summer days!!) but there is a clear favourite that has emerged. A mild, breezy, overcast day where we can walk for hours without sweating and my eyes can be pain free from harsh sunlight.

I adore the blue hour too for it’s deep colour coupled with the lights of the city switching on. And sunrise and sunset – but now I find myself seeking the dance of the sun’s rays through the trees, magical shadows, reflections off the buildings or water and the colourful glow in the clouds rather than looking directly towards the bright sun. Even though night time is when my vision is at its poorest, over the years I have adjusted to loving and indeed seeking walks along a wide, clear pathway or past cafes in the city streets, holding my beloved’s hand. I’ve found freedom in enjoying the dark with its veiled treasures.

What weather or light makes you bounce just that little bit higher with joy?

For me it’s the super hot, disgustingly humid days. I feel alive on days like that. Or, on 40+ days in places of dry heat like Melbourne and Perth. I love the intense heat and the air that’s almost too hot/thick to breathe properly … followed by balmy evenings with the sound of cicadas ringing in my ears.

No one agrees with me though, haha.

Your photo reminds me of Scotland :) My favourite time is dusk, when everything is a little hazy and there’s the beginnings of beautiful colours in the sky. Otherwise I love balmy blue sky days with a hint of cloud; not seeing the sun for even a day or two makes me feel gloomy!

I like blue sky, with fluffy clouds – so, I guess – spring and summer days :)

Wish I could enjoy the hot, humid days like Jasmine as we get quite a few of those in Sydney. Instead they make me feel lethargic – and I don’t like feeling lethargic.
Otherwise I enjoy Spring and Autumn the most – warmer in the middle of the day and crisp around the edges :)

Overcast weather has been easier on my eyes — it makes me see less of the floaters that distract my vision.

It’s crisp days with fluffy clouds that make me bounce, simply because I get to use the word ‘fluffy’, too :D

I too like the blue hour, and thick fog.

Oh summer weather, definitely. But summer in Australia – those beautiful hot days that start and end off cool. Love morning walks on the beach and cycling around the lake in the evening. Blue skies and sunshine perpetuate my smile…

… but in NY, it’s spring – the city starts to warm up, there’s blossoms and tulips everywhere and a palpable sense of hope and excitement as everyone drags themselves out of winter.

For me, it depends on the season. Right now, after a long winter, I long for sunshine and blue skies. I love the golden hour, but not so much what comes after it. It unsettles me.
But in the midst of summer, I long for chilly autumn days, both the sunny ones and the stormy ones. Those are, all in all, my favorites.
