last days of autumn

Opposite to the masses, you’re more likely to find my husband and I on the beach in the cooler months. Rugging up in jeans and a jacket for a stroll along the blustery shores colliding with rough, choppy waves is quite lovely in our books. And we all know how much a dog loves a romp with the wind in his ears!
On this day just a few before the end of autumn, I explored two beaches with my mum and grandparents. After my dog and I ran along the sand, my mum and grandfather sat under a tree in the sun and talked. My gran, dog and I wandered away to the rocks where only a few wet-suited surfers shared the vast space with us. We sat with our backs against the beacon and watched the waves, guessing which ones would spray droplets the highest. Wearing my scarf around her head and neck she looked like a Greek nanna with lined and tanned skin showing her long life outdoors and indeed on the seas. My arm around her or just holding her hand, we shared precious quality time.

With the beach vibe and the blue skies and the sea you’ve captured a real sense of poignancy as autumn fades away. Your photos always say so much!
beautiful romp…thanks for taking us along….all so beautiful, especially all the blues accented by the blue shoes!
Nice pictures and very visual description there. Too bad no pictures to accompany that scene but I can picture it in my mind beautifully.
I love your photos of the sea, we prefer being down by the sea out of season too! Your words are so beautiful too.

You write so beautifully! I love the image of your Mum, exactly what my mum does in the sun! So nice to picture you running on the beach with puppy. xxx
I too adore a quiet cool beach.
Such a nice description of your time spent at the beach with your gran and the dog. I enjoy beaches both in the hot and cold months; the former because i can swim more comfortably, and the colder months because the beach is empty and quiet
I love the way you’ve written about this… I can almost feel the wind buffeting me, the smell of salt in the air and the mist of water on my skin.
I used to love walking along the bay in Melbourne whatever the weather (although a Sydney beach would be lovelier but don’t tell any other Melburnians I said that!)
I love the beach in Winter too. They’re less crowded and the waves are more fierce, which I love.
