homemade granola

31 March 2012

My dear blogger friend at Quiet Paws and I made a promise to make granola this month. And blog about it of course!

I wonder what the difference is between muesli and granola? A Google search tells me that granola is toasted in honey and oil, which this recipe is. Does anyone know the answer?

Golden, crunchy, toasty stuff fresh out of the oven.

Making muesli always takes me back to when my mum made toasted muesli each week. Being very active, we needed a lot of fuel and I have fond memories of the simple, wholesome food we ate and sitting on the kitchen bench while mum retrieved the muesli from the oven.

As I made this, I also thought of Tracey. Would Jones and Baxter be nearby as she pottered in the kitchen? (Follow her on Instagram and you will find that Jones is surely the most smiley cat you have ever seen and Baxter looks super chilled and cuddly.) What does her kitchen look like? I know it has a big clock in it. Where would she get the recipe from? It was fun to be virtually sharing in this experience together.

To celebrate, I set  myself up with a lovely date-for-one of green tea, a jug of almond milk, fresh figs and blueberries. Yum. Don’t forget to click over to Quiet Paws to see her homemade granola/muesli. Also, leave me a comment if you would like to join us for the April challenge and I will email you details.

Hi there, I’m here for brekky after visiting at ‘Quiet Paws’.

This looks delicious and you’ve created such a lovely setting.
If I were really with you it would be my first time tasting almond milk and as for the granola – scrummy!

The only time I’ve ever made has been when I’ve made Nigella’s chocolate & peanut version – which is seriously good but totally naughty….http://www.nigella.com/recipes/view/andys-fairfield-granola-138

    Happy weekend,

I love this! I read Tracey’s post immediately after yours, and I loved how well they connected to each other. I enjoyed your musings about how Tracey’s experiences were as you were making your granola – it definitely makes an otherwise solitary activity feel communal and connected. Your granola with the figs looks so delicious too!

I’d love to be involved with the April challenge x

I miss real muesli. I used to eat it like it was going out of fashion as a kid. Gluten free muesli exists, but it’s just not the same without the oats. I think if I made my own and toasted it like you did, perhaps it would taste a bit better. I might experiment soon!

PS. How good is almond milk? Yum!

Yummy! love the result with the fresh figs. I’ve been using almond milk for several years – great milk substitute! Happy weekend. ox

Yum! I make my muesli too, with oil and honey, although I’ve always wondered if there was a difference between muesli and granola. Maybe it’s just a regional thing (like jam/jelly)?

Very inspired by the photos of muesli with fresh figs – think I’ll be trying that next!

Looks delish! The almond milk sounds interesting too, I’ll have to give that a try on my muesli sometime soon. Thanks for sharing:)
