beauty . fashion . bikes *copenhagen*

1 December 2011

I loved watching the women in Copenhagen as they silently glided past on their bikes. They are truly beautiful, natural, elegant and ever fashionable. From Copenhagen Cycle Chic, I know that some will wear heels while riding, but the ones that stood out to me were those who dressed in a way that inspired me in my practical needs for walking. Flat loafers/sandals/boots, dresses or loose pants with singlets/shirts, denim/leather jackets and cardigans and long hair flowing out behind them. They renewed my enthusiasm for my denim jacket that has almost been purged so many times. While they looked current and fashionable, there was still a sense of timelessness about their clothes. I also noted they didn’t wear many bright colours or loud patterns, but rather neutral tones of black, denim blue, olive, dusty pink, red, brown, white and cream. Shoes were often of quality material too. The men looked pretty fabulous as well, again with timeless styles and neutral tones. Fashion didn’t disappear with age, either. I have a photo of the most spectacularly beautiful grey haired lady who rode into a shot. She has a silk scarf around her neck and healthy complexion and complimentary colours in her classic outfit.

I left Copenhagen filled with inspiration for my own walking wardrobe. And the couple riding holding hands… well they were just adorable.

This is so true; noticed it in Amsterdam, very neutral outfits. I saw a whole family hold onto each other, it was so cool.

Heels on bicycles! Makes me feel ever so lazy for wearing flats to work today. You’re right, it’s a great style aesthetic over there.

Ooo I love this. I’ve never been to Copenhagen but love that they use bikes. Bikes are such a great way to get around a city and you get the added buzz that you are doing something good for the environment since you are not taking a car. That being said I don’t think i have the confidence to get a bike in NYC…too many pedestrians and too much traffic.

    P xo

PS I’ve always given buttons, hems etc to my Mum – now i have to pay for someone to do it (if only I had listened to my Mum when she was trying to teach me all those years ago).

I love your detailed and beautiful descriptions of the fashion you experienced and took in while there. And you gave me a very big smile this morning when I opened my blog and read your supportive and encouraging comments. Just lovely, thanks so much for that.

Wow. That is a whole next level of classy dressing. How fun – another place hope to go someday. Love and have it starred to order my notecards when we return from San Fran. xoxo
