my urban garden update

13 November 2011

My little garden makes me happy. I love coming home from my morning walk with my husband and dog to tend my plants. I have been watching some tv shows hosted by Monty Don, in which he travels the world exploring spectacular gardens. His passionate, eloquent and emotive spiels about these gardens are so infectious that you can’t help but feel just as enamoured with them. I have to admit I also have a little crush on him!

Should I let my basil plant grow those little white flowers? Or am I supposed to prune them?

I’m also a fan of Monty, isn’t he great? We’ve been watching his ‘Italian Gardens’ special and swooning over the amazing estates.

Pick those basil flowers off to keep your basil going for longer :)

Gosh, I wish my planters looked that good… when your basil begins to flower like that, do you pinch them off? I heard once they make the plant go all spindly, and mine does seem to be headed in that direction!

Oh…p.s! I’m running a giveaway on The Spring right now that I think you’d really like… it’s all about mason jars, cast iron skillets, and all kinds of traditional, wonderful, kitchenwares!

Per usual, I love your pictures and post. But do you know what I like most? I love the fact that you do a morning walk with your husband and dog. How sweet is that?!!!!!

Oh I miss our little garden back in Sydney…although I can guarantee my husband misses it more. I have always struggled with basil I think once it goes to seed its all over. My Mum says that you should grow basil in multiples – so plant more than just one, apparently they tend to work better that way?

Don’t know about the flowers but your garden looks gorgeous! One of my little projects over Christmas will be to set up an urban garden. LOVE. x
