shakespeare & the sartorialist *paris*

19 October 2011

As I posed for a touristy photo outside the famous Shakespeare & Co. bookstore, I looked behind my husband’s shoulder and saw The Sartorialist walking towards us. I could so easily pass recognisable people each day, but just for that second, my bespectacled tunnel vision was facing the right way at the right distance at the right time.

After a brief chat to him, I was unable to take photos as he walked away. I didn’t have time to change from the full memory card to a new one! He wore loose mid-calf pants, street sneakers, a polo shirt, a deep frown in his brow, lips pursed together, camera in hand, its strap around his wrist and set off wandering the streets of Paris, seeking out the truly beautiful and fantastical.

The bookshop itself is a little den of treasures. We were there on our last day in Paris and discovered it was only 150m from our hotel. So cute and rich with so much history.

Oh, this is a most charming spot in Paris…I think it is enhanced by the comfort of finding English amidst all the French that I cannot speak despite more than four years of study…and you have captured it beautifully with your photos and your little story of the Satorialist. And thanks for your sweet comments on my blog, especially this one – “Love seeing your moments and reading your thoughts.” Your Minnesota friend!

This place is incredible. Discovered it on a trip to Paris with my now wife. Sorry for the self-promo, but here a couple pics taken inside with my film camera – thought you might like..

Such a delightful landmark this is. And how cool to see the Sartorialist! I would never have the courage to talk to him – I’m always dressed like a slob when I’m out shooting. :)
