ottolenghi cafe *london*

7 October 2011

We were determined to visit an Ottolenghi cafe after several of our foodie friends recommended it to us. We walked from our friend’s place to the Islington location on a wet, cold morning. Coming inside to coffee and hot chocolate was a great start. The service was friendly and very efficient. The food was delicious and the presentation of the cafe impeccable. My favourite touch was the gorgeous red toasters on the tables with the electric cords hung from the ceiling. A fellow diner inadvertently styled that shot perfectly for me by leaving a folded up newspaper near the toast spreads. Now, my friends, I pass the recommendation onto you. Should you find yourself in London, try visiting one of their cafes. Even if just for a coffee and to gaze at the beauty of it all. I just read on the Ottolenghi blog that the Islington store has undergone a renovation since we dined there in June. Has anyone seen photos of what it looks like now?

They also sell The Cookbook and Plenty via several online stores if you want to admire from afar. Yotam Ottolenghi also shares recipes on The Guardian online newspaper.

Yum I would love to go to Ottolenghi!! If only I knew about it when I was in London. I have ‘Plenty’ and I love it – mainly just to flick through it is such a fabulous and beautiful book – I am yet to cook much from it though haha.

Thanks for your lovely comment, It is definitely worth getting Plate to Pixel (though your photos already look pretty good!) even if just to pick up a few styling/lighting tips. I was really feeling the mood that Helene talks about with the strange light during a thunderstorm… it gives such a particular look and (in my opinion) is perfect for a warming recipe like soup!!
