thoughts on turning 30

We are in the middle of celebrations of my recent 30th birthday. My husband has termed it the “birthday festival”! I decided on lots of small gatherings as opposed to a big party that can be overwhelming for my senses. I also wanted to remember quality times with people as I celebrated beginning a new decade.

There have been so many thoughts in my mind as I reflected upon my 20s. Here’s just a few…

  1. Turning 30 doesn’t scare me. I am the age that I am and I embrace the journey. Aging is beautiful as it means we continue to have the gift of life, experiences, choices, and time.
  2. Knowing how well my mum and gran have aged, I will probably always be mistaken for younger than my years. I know that one day I will love this happening. One day!
  3. A lot of incredible things happened in my 20s. I entered them with a life-changing diagnosis; became one of the best in the world in my pursuits; achieved a state managerial role at a young age; met, bought a home with, and married the love of my life; got my adorable dog; travelled the world; met many amazing people, some famous, some not; did motivational speaking and…
  4. I went through personal growth in learning to see my self-worth for who I am and not just those external achievements. My achievements are awesome. But who I am to myself and loved ones is important, and learning to like myself first has been a really important process.
  5. I’ve gone through over 10 years of the continual cycle of grief and acceptance of my eye conditions as they continue to deteriorate and change my way of doing things. I am proud that I remain a happy person who smiles every day.
  6. My 30s are going to be fantastic!

I would love to hear if you’ve reflected on your personal growth and achievements lately.

Happy birthday! Before I turned 30 I thought it was going to be a big deal, but then once I got there it was great. I think it’s a fantastic decade of growth and deeper self-reflection (in a good way).

Lots of small gatherings sounds like a lovely way to celebrate … and that way you can extend your birthday as long as possible!! :)

Happy birthday! I hope you had a wonderful day! I turned 30 in April and while I was a bit unsure about it, it has actually been a really great year and I think it can only get better. So I know you are going to have a wonderful time too. xx

Happy Birthday my beautiful friend! I celebrated mine too :) although I wish it was my 3oth birthday all over again! You’ll love your 30s; I realized a lot of things about myself once I turned 30, and I learned to love myself. Some people realize that before, some after. I feel content now in my 30s than I did in my 20s. Enjoy your 30s to the fullest, girl! :D

I think I will have a birthday week when I turn 30 … either that or I will have some sort of internal crisis and leave the country. Either one sounds good! :D

    Love your reflections :)
