wandering words

  • Are Paralympians the New Black in Beauty? I’m thrilled to see the likes of South Arican double amputee runner Oscar Pistorius getting ambassador contracts in the fashion world.
  • New England Blind & Vision Impaired Ski Festival The next time I hit the snow, I want to try cross-country skiing! “From February 12 – 17, 2012 Maine Handicapped Skiing (MHS) will be welcoming visually impaired (VI) and blind skiers, their guides and families from throughout the U.S. to the slopes of Sugarloaf Mountain Resort in Carrabassett Valley, Maine.”
  • Walk Score Rankings in USA. On this website you can vote for the most pedestrian friendly cities in the USA. I’ve visited 5 of the current top 10. I love sites that focus on pedestrianism and urban planning, please let me know if you come across any others. My USA friends, did you find your city in the list? Do you agree with the ranking?
  • Cities Report Surge in Graffiti and Street Art Exhibit Has People Talking USA. While I do not appreciate or condone tagging and vandalism, I do love well-executed, well-placed, talented and thoughtful street art. I remember talking to the boys painting on the wall on Venice Beach, California. They explained to us that they had to get permission to paint there. That entails going over the previous painters’ art work and starting afresh. It was looking impressive when we were there. I got some great photos of them with their spray cans, permission tags visibly hanging from their shorts.

Oakland & SF are on that walking list, which is interesting. SF, I can see… but not Oakland. Some parts are too dangerous to do that, and even then, lots of areas are so industrial that you’d be walking a looong time through boring areas before getting to where you need to be.

Btw, thanks so much for your kind words on my latest Local Creators post! You’re so sweet. :)

Surprised to not see my SLC on the list – I find it pretty friendly. Your photo shoot sounds delightful. Much love.

Hello there my dear … I’ve just read your recent blog entries and caught up on your news. Thanks for your wonderful (and thoughtful) comments on my blog – I really, really appreciate them. It’s nice to be back and visiting you for a change … :)

Cross-country skiing … you are brave! I’ve never tried to ski, but I suspect I wouldn’t be all that good at it … ha! :)

Like yourself I don’t like graffiti, but I do have a special place in my heart for street art … there are some amazingly talented artists out there.

    xx
